Enjoying the red-moon show

Enjoying the red-moon show

In the scene from the Lamai beach of Ko Samui island, Thailand, a few amazed people were gazing in the sky while special “supermoon” of January 31st, 2018, was turning into red. Story of this total lunar eclipse starts in the bottom half of the image, where the partially eclipsed Moon first time appeared among slowly disappearing clouds. While rising upright, the best of the show was about to come. The total eclipse turned usual full Moon to faint orange-red “ghost”, surrounded by stars of darkened sky, for more than an hour. As Thai people prepared for this night rich program of every-month „full moon party“, including spectacular fire-men shows, the experience along the beach was even more unique. Everyone took a long look at the red Moon, considering what was exactly going on. Only a few people knew the real reason – that the Moon was hidden in the Earth’s shadow and reflecting our twilight/dawn colors from its surface. More colors appeared after the end of total eclipse, when in a sparse clouds in front of the brightening Moon produced the atmospheric corona. Used Canon 6D, Sigma 24mm Art, f2.8, ISO 200, different exposures for the eclipse and the foreground, multiexposure.
