Some say the night sky can be quite boring. But they are wrong. Especially when you get in place with a naturally dark sky, far away from harmful light pollution<\/a>. Such as the Atacama Desert<\/a>, Chile, where the major observatories can be found. In this shot, the bright central Milky Way rises over the ESO La Silla Observatory<\/a> with the dome of the Danish 1.54m telescope<\/a> in the foreground. Very notable is the reddish airglow<\/a> of our atmosphere, easily visible even to naked eyes. On the right, both Magellanic Clouds<\/a> “flow” in the southern Universe.
