La Silla Interstellar
The poster of the brand new (and for me amazing) Christopher Nolan’s movie Interstellar had impressed me as the movie itself. I was wondering if the mystic colors of the Universe is possible to capture without complicated equipment. Well, I guess it wasn’t that easy as creating the poster, but the result was worth for that. This image I captured at La Silla Observatory, Chile, on 21st January 2015, just between the hill of the 3,6-m telescope and Swedish Submillimetre Telescope site. I had to wait to early morning as the Milky way approached zenith. The deep view is attained by sequential capturing with applying darkframes and stacking the images together to one and averaging the background noise during the postprocessing. Impressive colors of the Vela “Gum nebula” complex are magnified thanks to modified camera. Except that, you can find planet Jupiter close to the Gegenshein on the left bottom part of the panorama and magnificent Magellanic clouds up there on the right part. So at La Silla Observatory you can really feel (and capture) the interstellar moments. Used Canon 6D Baader IR Mod, Sigma 15 mm, f3,5, ISO 6400. Image is created as panorama of 5 segments, each 42×20 s, darkframes applied (camera on tripod).
