Wild Sky over La Silla

Some say the night sky can be quite boring. But they are wrong. Especially when you get in place with a naturally dark sky, far away from harmful light pollution. Such as the Atacama Desert, Chile, where the major observatories can be found. In this shot, the bright central Milky Way rises over the ESO La Silla Observatory with the dome of the Danish 1.54m telescope in the foreground. Very notable is the reddish airglow of our atmosphere, easily visible even to naked eyes. On the right, both Magellanic Clouds “flow” in the southern Universe. Used Canon 6D modified, Samyang 24mm, f2.2, ISO 10000, 39x15s panorama from tripod.
