Red Sprites over Central Europe
On Friday late evening’s (17 July, 2026), stormy weather over eastern Bohemia and western Slovakia was pretty active. It even caused some inconveniences. While observing from Proseč u Seče, Czech Republic, a beautiful family of Red Sprites appeared at 21:06:34 UTC above a strong thunderstorm, which was located about 240 km from me. Their typical red color is caused by nitrogen emission at about 50-95 km in the atmosphere, and they last only 1/100s. Despite its short appearance, I saw it with my eyes as it was truly bright Sprites family!
