Yesterday late evening’s (17 July, 2026) stormy weather over eastern Bohemia and western Slovakia was pretty active. While observing from Proseč u Seče, Czech Republic a beautiful, the elusive Red Sprite appeared at 21:06:34 UTC above a strong thunderstorm, which was located about 240 km far from me. It was so bright that I saw it with my eyes! Their typical red color is caused by nitrogen emission about 50-95km high in the atmosphere.
Used Canon Ra, Sigma 50mm, f1.4, ISO 2500, 5s exposure from tripod.
