Cloudy solar eclipse… Revealed

Cloudy solar eclipse… Revealed

Since the total solar eclipse on 9 March 2016 was disturbed by clouds over Maba village of Halmahera island, I was so happy of the visual experience so far. But somehow I managed even to get some data to a deeper mathematical post-processing, which I learned from prof. Druckmüller. It really took a while, but after many procedures i finally got this result. Fortunately, the corona was not hidden behind the clouds completely for all the eclipse duration, so by a combination of different exposures and with calibration data I could reveal more details in the end. This view shows almost the same what I remember by watching the phenomenon through my 11×70 binoculars. But still, the most amazing aspect of this eclipse was the huge prominence, visible all the time of the totality. Even cloudy eclipse is absolutely unforgettable experience! Used Canon 6D Baader IR modified, 500/8 telephoto lens, 27 exposures of full bracket from 1/2s to 2s, darkframes and flatfields applied, tracked from Vixen mount.

I would like to acknowledge support for the eclipse expedition to Indonesia which was provided by NSF grants AGS-1144913 and AGS-1255894, NASA grant NNX13AG11G to PI Shadia R. Habbal of the Institute for Astronomy, the University of Hawaii, and the use of the local government building in Maba, with help from Xavier Jubier, without whom this image would not have been made possible.
