Yes, I saw the Geminids. But it took truly long time to deliver the image. Reason? Bad signal. So here is it, lovely Geminids I was lucky to observe and capture over Soneva islands, Maldives (where I was invited), when clear skies allowed. Because the bioluminiscence started to be active as well, you can spot it in the image too, mostly like a small blue sparkles around the island. It was completely different experience to watch a meteor shower from the equator, indeed.
Apart from the Geminids, you can also identify many H-alpha regions in the sky, especially in the Orion, Puppis, and Vela constellation. Very nice is also atmospheric corona around Jupiter, caused by passing thin clouds.
Meteors were captured in the nights 13-16 December 2025 from Soneva Jani Island. Unfortunately, very bad weather didn’t allow to capture even the foreground image, so I was forced to finish the project from Soneva Fushi Island, just by the end of Geminids on 21 December 2025 (sky) and 23 December (the island with lights switched off). Lots of light pollution was caused by numerous light Christmas decorations at all surrounding island, from which was no escape. I would like to thank to the Soneva management for turning off the lights at the Soneva Fushi Island for the time of taking the foreground data of the photograph. Without them this image would not be possible at all.
Used Nikon Z6II, Samyang 12mm, f2.8, ISO 5000, 30s exposures, tripod (meteors), Canon Ra, Samyang 12mm, f2.8, ISO 5000, 30s exposures, tripod (meteors), and Canon Ra, Tamron 35mm, f1.4, ISO 4000, panorama of 89 single 13s exposures.
Enjoy the virtual reality
