The Sun, divided

On May 26th, 2019, I cought over Ustupky, Czech Republic, bright green rim of the sun divided by cloud while bottom part was fainter due different atmospheric extinction. Prominent green color is probably caused by optical layer with more ozone than in bottom part. Quite lucky shot 🙂 Used Canon 6D and MTO 1100 mm.

Gems of Soneva Fushi sky

Deeply among the Maldivian islands, you can reach a small one called Soneva Fushi. And it is a truly beautiful and peaceful place to stay. The stormy weather over Europe in recent days is perfectly favorable for capturing upper atmosphere lightning, called red spites. Despite short nights over the Czech Republic (due to summer solstice season) I was finally lucky last night, on 11th June 2018 after midnight. This red sprite occured most likely over large thunderstorm located east from…

On this image, taken on 9 April 2016 before dawn, the Milky Way arches over ALMA observatory – the largest ground astronomical observatory in the world, located in Chilean Chajnantor Plateau in 5040m (over 16400ft) altitude. Sky should be deeply dark, considering the altitude, however due to atmopsheric airglow it is not so far. In…

The Grand Prismatic World

Even if the human eyes are not enough sensitive for the colors in night nature, it doesn’t mean the colors are faded away. In this surrealistic scene, rounded pier lies on colorful landscape of the Yellowstone National Park, US. The vivid (in the picture mostly red-orange) colors are the result of microbial mats around the…
